Happy 2012!

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

Happy 2012 everyone! I’ve been away from the blog for a while. I apologize. I had a very full holiday season with work, travel, guests, cooking, computer issues, you name it- it happened. Back up…. and RUNNING.

I don’t know about you- but I am really excited about 2012. I think people are ready for change. I think people are realizing that they have a choice and a VOICE in that change. A voice to propose change for the better in many aspects of their own lives. I’m feeling it. I’m looking forward to creating a fabulous new year….

Looking ahead- thinking about this time of year and all that it brings to the world of beauty and fashion…..Awards season is coming! Later this month it all begins….I am looking forward to seeing and creating some gorgeous red carpet looks this year. This is always my busy time so I will try to share some good stuff- products, behind the scenes shots, anything I can to bring you in on the excitement!

I have also been exploring A LOT of product over the last month or more- both new brands and classic tried and true and so I have a lot of new favorite things to talk about here and will do so in the upcoming days.

Before I go I wanted to share that in March you can see me on camera again. I’ll be creating makeup looks for the new show Fashion Star on NBC premiering March 13th. Check local listings for the time in your region. The show is hosted by the lovely Elle Macpherson. I am part of the Maybelline makeup team headed up by my friend and fellow Cloutier Remix artist Julianne Kaye. Please visit the Fashion Star site and check out the show! Really looking forward to seeing the show and the final results.

More soon….

RCK- Red Carpet Kolour.

Thursday, May 12th, 2011

Miracle in a bottle? For some women this Spring-Summer season….they may very well be referring to RCK as that very thing. I recently saw an actress who looked the best I have ever seen her look. Hands down. Glowing. Her skin was gorgeous. It wasn’t just her face I was mesmerized by- it was her body….her arms….her legs…..her skin tone looked FANTASTIC. When asked about this- the actress summed it up and credited her uber talented celebrity Makeup Artist, Joanna Schlip, and RCK- Red Carpet Kolour. Turns out-Joanna is also the genius behind the brand RCK.  In her work as a top celeb MU Artist-Joanna saw the need for a body glow that truly performed. MU Artists are constantly looking for the magic elixir or product to make our jobs easier and Joanna actually went to work and DID IT. Body glow is always an issue for Artists- especially for Artists that make up celebrities for the red carpet, or for personal appearances- because we know that our job never ends with just the face. The skin on the rest of the body needs attention and love, too. Especially once the sun pops out during the warmer Spring-Summer months when celebs are showing even more skin- they want head to toe GLOW. For years now, I have been blending several products together to get my desired body glow delivered onto my clients. Those days are over now that I have found RCK. Red Carpet Kolour comes in Light, Medium, and Tan. Packed with vitamins and fragrance free (YES!!)- not only does it perfect and tone the skin…bringing instant luminosity and a youthful glow- it goes to work- actually blending and smoothing away the appearance of cellulite and stretch marks, erasing hyper pigmentation, and veins. Best part is that once it dries- IT DOESN’T MOVE. It will not come off on your clothing. I think it’s time to show some skin………

Super Solano!

Thursday, February 10th, 2011

Recently, when my beloved Super Solano hair dryer that I had professionally used for TEN YEARS began to make a horrifying high pitched sound when I turned it on- I knew the end was nigh. Too old to be under warranty- ( although you can still mail your older Solano hair dryer to Solano repair for a fee) it was time for me to check out Solano’s new products. I had always loved the sleek, black, minimalist design matched with “super power” performance of my old Super Solano but truth be told- I had always secretly wished it were a little bit more compact for my small hands….

Voila! Meet my new baby….my new Super Solano 3700 Moda.  I am not kidding you when I say it is as if I dreamed up my perfect hair dryer and the genius that is Solano INCEPTIONED me and produced the hair dryer of my dreams for the market……

The technology that backs the overall design of this dryer means that hair gets dried quicker- in the safest way possible. Far Infrared heat dries hair from the inside out. Ceramic, Tourmaline and Ionic technology translates to superior distribution of heat, producing smooth, shiny & protected hair. Music to my ears. Maximum care for the hair while delivering maximum power behind your styling. The compact design of my new Super Solano 3700 Moda feels good in my hands. It has a shorter barrel for easier styling and control. This is big for me. If you are straightening a whole lot of thick hair ( like mine, for example) you could be talking about an hour of work. This little powerhouse is also environmentally friendly- it actually emits low EMF- making it a responsible beauty investment. I’m in love with my new Solano and I look forward to many, many years together…….

5 New Year Beauty MUST Tries ( if you haven’t already….)

Sunday, December 19th, 2010

For most, the start of a New Year marks a time for new beginnings- new starts. Where beauty is concerned, there might be products you have heard of before but wanted to learn more about before committing to….or were afraid to spend the money on. You might be in a place with the new year approaching where you are looking to invest in a new product to incorporate into your established routine. Let this list serve as another research resource for your decision making. These 5 list makers are tried and tested products that you will find on almost any Beauty Insider’s “Best of” list. If you have not yet heard of some of these or have heard of them but not yet tried them- they are all worth a look. In queries posed to top Beauty Industry Insiders these are performance All Stars. Year round. Some of these- year after year. Others are newer to the list. Consider these inside information. What better time to try something new than the new year…..

1) Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation- It’s pretty safe to say that this is the go-to foundation found in the kits of many (if not most) Professional Makeup Artists I meet. I’ve never seen anything dominate a category for makeup the way this foundation has.

2) Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage- The perfect texture for staying power. The dual tone is essential for blending perfectly into the skin. The matte finish seals over imperfections like nothing I’ve tried. I keep coming back to it after experimenting with other brands.

3) Lavanilla Deodorant- The search for an aluminum free, all natural deodorant that works is over, kids. I am so grateful that I read a review of this a while back which set me on my researching frenzy to read review after review. Consumers were saying that it worked. I bought the Vanilla Lavender at Sephora and I can tell you first hand- this is my dream deodorant. The good news- it works. I personally found that less is more which makes it a money saver. For $18 you might be comforted to hear that. It comes in other fragrances such as Pure Vanilla, Vanilla Coconut, and Vanilla Grapefruit. I am obsessed. I will eventually try all of these scents.

4) Nars Blush- Nothing sweeps onto the cheek like it. The velvet texture is almost creamy and the available color range is unmatched. Unanimously respected and recognized as the go to blush in a lot of Makeup Artist’s kits.

5) Clarisonic Mia- I didn’t want to believe this pricey exfoliation device was worth the $149 price tag. I was convinced it had to be hype. I started asking around. Try this yourself. Ask someone who is using the Clarisonic Mia to tell you what they think about it. In the people I talked to- two comments came up everytime- “ I can’t imagine my life without it now.” and “It is worth every penny.” Talk of disappearing pores and clarity as immediate results has developed the Clarisonic Mia a cult following.

Red Carpet Bay Area

Monday, November 29th, 2010

Recently, I had the honor of taking part in a wonderful occasion- helping to send off a young San Francisco Poetess on her journey to the White House…..Nicole Zatarain Rivera, youth representative for WritersCorps, was on her way to Washington for the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Awards. Nicole would be accepting an award as Ambassador for WritersCorps. WritersCorps is a non profit project of the San Francisco Arts Commission. WritersCorps publishes the work of young writers such as Nicole- providing them with a forum to express their art. Representing the cosmetic line NYX, I headed to my beloved home town of San Francisco to provide Nicole Zatarain Rivera with a makeup lesson/makeover for her big day. The show Red Carpet Bay Area sponsored Nicole’s entire makeover and would be devoting an episode to Nicole’s journey.  We all met at Elevation Salon on Bush Steet in San Francisco where Nicole would receive her hair transformation. After hours in the chair receiving cut and color- Nicole was mine- and we sat down to give her a youthful, glamorous makeup look for her day at The White House. The entire application was captured on video for Red Carpet Bay Area………

I had a great time working with Nicole and really enjoyed meeting Aracely (Nicole’s WritersCorps teacher) and Melissa Hung the Program Manager from WritersCorps. I had a great time with the entire crew of Red Carpet Bay Area and running into old friends I hadn’t seen in years at Elevation Salon in SF.

Below are more links to WritersCorps and The San Francisco Arts Commission. They are doing incredibly wonderful things…such as….. CITY OF STAIRWAYS- A Poet’s Field Guide To San Francisco. Written by the student apprentices of WritersCorps (which includes Nicole!)- the book gives residents of SF and visitors to SF alike a ” vibrant perspective on being a youth in an urban environment.” Check it out here…..

City of Stairways holds center stage on my coffee table! I love this book and feel moved by the words and images with every turn of the page….

TVP, FNO and NYFW……

Monday, September 13th, 2010

Phew! I’ve had a lot going on….so it’s catch up time….

First things first….The Victory Project Chicago! I had a fantastic time in Chicago shooting our episode there. I have always loved Chicago, and I’m always blown away by the beauty there- and this time was no exception. I love walking the streets- marveling at the architecture….and I did a fair amount of that this trip. I had the blisters to prove it, too! Well worth it……

I can’t give away or show too much…..but this episode is going to be epic! The Ladies blew my mind….each one of them an absolute inspiration. Talk about dynamic. It was an honor to meet and work with each one of these courageous women. The Chicago beauty episode will be up on the site very soon…..stay tuned….http://thevictoryproject.msn.com/

FNO……

I was in Beverly Hills for LA’s version of Fashion’s Night Out and it was crazy! The streets were shut down, everyone that had money to spend was out in force to party and indulge in the many fashion deals to be had in all of the stores taking part. Music was loudly pumped out by numerous DJs on hand and people were literally dancing down the streets.  It was like a high end carnival on Rodeo Drive! There was even a ferris wheel on the corner of Rodeo and Wilshire! People were truly enjoying themselves and celebrating the night out…..

NYFW……

So far, my favorite beauty looks from New York Fashion Week are coming from the Diane von Furstenberg Spring 2011 Ready to Wear collection…..I loved this look. Makeup was by James Kaliardos for MAC. Fresh, nearly bare face, with a striking matte pink lip inspired by an Andy Warhol pop art silk-screen…. The hair was designed by Orlando Pita and was pulled back away from the face in a very casual bun….as if the models did their hair themselves. The beauty was inspired by 70′s icons, Bianca Jagger, Lauren Hutton and DVF herself…..in fact, it was a portrait of DVF by Warhol that is said to have inspired the beauty look for this show………
